Over 6 Feet of New Snow
Jan. 28, 2010
Our cabins and lodge rooms will keep you cozy at night after you spend your day out in natures wonderland. If vertical is your thing, then Kirkwood Mountain Resort is 5 minutes away… or bring your cross country skies and blaze your own trail right outside your door.

Prefer more solitude, then try a day trekking around Caples Lake with complimentary snowshoes. Just want to enjoy the beautiful Sierra view, then hang out on your private cabin deck, or sit back and enjoy the view from our lodge common room.

If you want a fun place to hang out with the kids, then our guest only sledding runs will take care of that.
Youtube: Come along for a ride with Owner John Voss out clearing the road and grooming sledding runs.

ICE FISHING UPDATE
Dozens of fisherman have been out in the past few weeks and doing quite
well. Today every fisherman I spoke with had caught their limit and then
some! A couple guys from Lodi had already pulled 35 fish out (and
released them) in the past few hours. What’s working? “Everything, but the
kitchen sink” is what I was told; worms, Kastmasters, power bait.
Expect to drill down through 3-6″ of snow and 12-15″ of ice.
Plowed parking turnouts are located just east of the dam and near the
spillway.
The New Year started with a fresh dusting of snow, with the cold temperatures the skiing has been great. The snow coverage is such that you can snowshoe or cross country ski right from the resort. Ice fisherman are reporting drilling down about 18″ to reach water for fishing and the trout are hungry!
Kirkwood experienced a fire at their powerhouse on 1/1/10 shutting down all electricity and lifts in the afternoon. As of today they are working on restoring power and lift operations, check out their website for updates www.kirkwood.com
Since Caples Lake Resort generates its own electricity we have not been affected by the Kirkwood power outage. We offer complimentary snowshoe and ice auger rentals to all lodging guests so come up and stay; it’s beautiful and peaceful up here.
