Another 5 pound Trophy Rainbow, stocked by El Dorado Irrigation

District in June, caught September 1, 2009 by Ben Laewson from Elk
Grove,Ca. from the Caples Lake spillway “shore” on rainbow power bait 15″
off the bottom on a sliding sinker.
The bite continues to be good for rainbow, brooke and brown planters
as shown by Placerville’s Troy Mosack and Jim Manson’s string caught
September 1, 2009, 25′ deep trowling with crawlwers 24″ behind a single
dodger.
The lake has gone down 8′ from full lake level 62′ depth in July. El
Dorado Irrigation District is dropping the lake level 3″ per day thru the
fall. The concrete boat ramp will be usable another 1 1/2 weeks at which
time the launching will be from the gravel beach launch thru September
and October depending on lake level. Check our phone message on 209 258
8888 for lake and ramp availablity.
The cabins and rooms will be available during September and October as
the fishing gets better.
The new Caples Lake boat ramp and day use area on the north side of the
lake is under construction by EID and the USFS and is planned for opening
summer 2010. The new boat ramp will facilitate early and late season
launching when the water level is low all the way down to lake level 36
feet, whereas the Caples Lake Resort concrete boat ramp is useable down
to lake level 52 feet.
CaplesĀ Lake Resort plans to have the marina and store open but not the
public boat launch in summer 2010.
